A TikTok creator says a man she went on a date with had studied months of her videos beforehand and used details from them to make himself seem like a perfect match for her.
The creator, who goes by Leslie and posts under the username @caldo.de.les and has about 139,500 followers, shared the story in a video posted the same morning the date took place. She said she debated posting the video because she knew the man would likely see it, but decided to share it anyway.
She said she matched with the man on a dating app about a month before the date. Their early conversation faded quickly, which she said is common on dating apps. A few weeks later, she said he began messaging her daily with compliments and requests to meet up, and she agreed to get breakfast with him early the next morning.
Date details echoed weeks of the woman’s TikTok posts
The night before the date, Leslie said the man texted her to confirm plans and mentioned he had just started fasting and working out. She said she had posted about her own weight loss journey, including losing 11 pounds, about two and a half weeks earlier. At the time, she said she thought it was a coincidence and felt they had something in common.
At the date, which she said took place around 7 a.m., she asked him what he was looking for in a partner. She said he described qualities that matched her own life, including wanting a hard-working woman and saying he didn’t mind if she had kids, which she does, a teenage son. She said he also mentioned wanting a partner who takes care of others, and she said she works as a nurse. Other daters have described similarly pulling every word out of a date with little natural connection, though this date felt different because everything seemed to line up too well.
Leslie then asked about his favorite TV shows. She said he named Grey’s Anatomy, a show she posts about often, and then listed several anime titles she had also talked about on her page. She said this was when she began to feel something was “kind of weird.”
Leslie said she decided to test him by asking about his favorite Chainsaw Man character, a show she said she loves. When he answered, she told him her favorite was “Brody,” which she said is actually her sister’s dog’s name and not a character in the show. She said he responded as if he recognized the name anyway, which made her more suspicious.
Leslie said the moment that confirmed her suspicion came when she asked him about a place he had always wanted to visit. She said he described a dream of sitting and reading at the New York Public Library, which he said would “change my life.” She said this matched a video she had posted about living out that same dream. She said this was when she “clocked it” and began to feel “uneasy and like violated.”
She then asked him what he thought about social media and whether he used TikTok or Instagram. Leslie said he mentioned watching content about how to become a content creator. She said she then asked directly if he watched her page, naming her username, and said he appeared to become uncomfortable before saying her videos may have crossed his For You page before, which she said would make sense if he had saved her number in his phone contacts.
Leslie said she asked him if that was why he had been so persistent after their initial match went quiet for weeks. He admitted he wanted to become a content creator, was unhappy with his job, and felt the two of them “have things that the other person wants” and could “help each other.”
She pointed out that she does not have a large following, adding she doesn’t even have a million followers, and posts for fun rather than as a career. When she asked what he could offer her in return, she said he used the exact phrase “partner in crime” and described wanting “someone to do life with,” language she had used in a video about what she wants from a relationship just days earlier.
She said hearing her own words repeated to her made her feel sick to her stomach, comparing it to waking up in a pitch-black room in the middle of a nightmare. She told him the situation was “super inappropriate” before grabbing her phone, leaving, and blocking him. Unlike stories of daters receiving a strange list of post-date rules, this encounter ended the moment she recognized the pattern.
In the video, Leslie said the experience left her overthinking how her public content could be used by others. She said she understands that anyone can view her videos, but said she never expected her content to be used the way it was in this situation, calling the realization “really, really scary.”
