Man orders his favorite Cheesecake Factory appetizer. Then his disgusted wife pulls it from their son’s hands and walk out: ‘brought us dirty food’

A man says he and his family walked out of a Cheesecake Factory location during his mother’s birthday celebration after finding dirt on their food not once, but twice. Content creator Jeremy, known on TikTok as @imjermee, shared the experience in a video that has been viewed more than 250,800 times and received over 17,800 likes.

Jeremy said he was not planning to film that day, noting he was “not in my normal uniform.” He explained the family had ordered his favorite appetizer, Thai lettuce wraps, along with tamale cakes for his parents.

While the family was eating, Jeremy’s wife suddenly yelled “Stop!” He said his oldest child was mid-bite when his wife began pulling the food out of his hands.

Family finds dirt on lettuce wraps served twice

Jeremy said they found “a huge clod of dirt on the back of his lettuce wrap,” which he described as “quarter-size round and like a half-inch thick.” An image shared in the video shows a lettuce leaf with a brown, clumpy spot, with on-screen text reading, “THIS IS WHAT THEY BROUGHT BACK. WISH I’D SNAGGED A PIC OF THE HUGE CLUMP ON THE ONE MY SON ATE.”

According to Jeremy, the family flagged down their waitress, who apologized and said she would get it taken care of. She took the lettuce wraps away, but Jeremy said there was “still dirt on like the next layer of lettuce of the lettuce wrap.”

About 10 minutes later, Jeremy said the waitress brought out a new set of lettuce wraps. He said he realized it was “the same set that they just took away,” adding that “dirt’s still all over the leaves, just as is.” 

At that point, Jeremy said the family decided to leave. He said, “I never walk out of restaurants, but like this is disgusting.” He said he was upset that staff “took this food away that was wrong, dirty, and then just brought it back to us 10 minutes later expecting us not to notice.”

Jeremy said he flagged down the waitress and told her the family was leaving, offering to pay for the appetizer they had eaten along with their drinks. He said, “just cash us out at this point, we’re done.”

While paying, Jeremy said he noticed a manager standing nearby “not really engaging.” He said he made eye contact with the manager, who asked what could be done to make the situation better. Jeremy responded that the family was simply cashing out and leaving. The chain’s troubles go beyond food handling, as a Hawaii woman says she slipped a server a 20 tip then checks her bank account. 

Jeremy said the manager’s only response was “oh,” and Jeremy told him, “you brought us dirty food back to our table a second time. We’re leaving. I don’t trust this kitchen at this point.” He also said the family paid, tipped the waitress, and left. The video ends with him pointing to a nearby Chili’s restaurant, saying, “Now we’re at Chili’s.”

In the caption of his video, Jeremy wrote that the “problem started with LETTUCE, of all things in this economy,” and said he did not enjoy making the video but was “blown away” by how the situation was handled. He also mentioned he has made Thai lettuce wraps at home and may share the process, adding, “And I actually wash the lettuce.”

The Cheesecake Factory responded to the video in the comments section, writing, “We’re so sorry to hear this! would you mind sending us a DM so we can look into it asap?” As of this writing, there has been no public update on the matter. Food safety concerns at chain restaurants can involve unexpected findings, as when a Tampa man bit into a Burger King chicken wrap and found a gummy, glistening substance inside. 

Several commenters shared their reactions to Jeremy’s experience. One person wrote, “That’s absolute insane behavior from Cheesecake Factory especially right now!!” Another commenter offered context about restaurant practices, writing, “restaurants don’t usually wash their produce.”

Some commenters questioned the situation itself. One asked, “Why are you eating lettuce at all,” while another wrote, “no photo no proof.” A commenter who identified as a longtime server voiced support for Jeremy’s decision to leave, writing, “As someone who’s been a server for well over a decade you’re fully in the right to do that.”
