AMC theatre had her checking the runtime over and over. Then the woman finally gets up and leaves 45 mins earlier: ‘I’ve never done before’

She finally decided enough was enough.

A TikTok creator says she walked out of a movie for the first time in her life after deciding she could not sit through the rest of Her Private Hell. The creator, who posts under the handle @bigbadmads, shared her reaction in a video with the caption, “I saw Her Private Hell so you don’t have to.”

In the video, the woman, identified as Mads, said she had been looking forward to the film because of its cast. She explained she is a fan of actress Sophie Thatcher and actor Charles Melton, calling Melton her “celebrity crush.”

Despite her excitement going in, Mads said the film’s lack of a clear story made her leave before it ended. Mads said in the video, “I just did something I’ve never done before. I walked out of a movie.” She said she had made it fairly far into the movie before deciding to leave.

Creator says she checked her phone to see how much of the film was left

She explained her reasoning, saying she had done the math on the remaining runtime. “I made it pretty far, but I did the math and I was like, there 45 more minutes to this,” she said. She added that she had “already pulled out my phone a couple of times to see how much longer it was.”

Mads said she did not think the film was without merit. “Hear me out. From a cinematography perspective, a costume and makeup perspective, it was beautiful,” she said. However, she said this did not make up for what she felt was missing from the story. “But there was no plot,” she said.

She then tried to describe what she had seen of the plot before leaving. “There was a guy named the Leatherman who was killing people’s daughters, but then Sophie Thatcher and all these other people were living in this mansion with this guy that they all called Daddy, and I don’t know if he was actually her dad,” she said. She added, “And it kept going back and between them.”

Mads said the structure of the film did not feel connected. “It just felt like someone wrote a bunch of scenes, put them together and said, let’s call this a movie. But there it wasn’t linear. It was like dots on a graph,” she said. She said this feeling led to her decision to leave. “I could be home watching something that I actually like. So I left,” she said.

The video drew a large number of comments, including one that questioned Thatcher’s acting ability and received about 30,000 likes. The comment read, “Sophie thatcher is objectively not a good actress they’re just forcing her on us.”

Mads addressed that comment directly in a follow-up TikTok video. She listed several of Thatcher’s other projects as she pushed back on the criticism. “This comment got 30,000 likes and all I have to say is, did you watch Companion? Did you see Heretic? Did you see Yellowjackets?” she said. She concluded, “You can’t tell me she’s bad if you have seen all of those films and TV shows.”

Other commenters shared their own reactions to Mads’s original video. One person mentioned a similar reaction to a different film, writing, “saw a comment that said they did this with Interstellar. that’s enough internet for today.” Some moviegoers have reported ruined experiences, such as when a man said two nearby viewers ruined his Spider-Man movie

Some viewers said they had a similar experience with the same film. One wrote, “I also walked out of her private hell today…” Others said they do not leave movies regardless of quality. One commenter wrote, “Once im in the theater, im not leaving. I gotta experience the whole trainwreck.”

One comment offered a different take on the film’s title, writing, “Maybe that was her private hell.” Another comment noted the broader reaction to the film online, writing, “This is everybody’s favorite movie to walk out of this week.” Film discussions can spark unexpected reactions, as when an Austin woman’s Christopher Nolan date took a surprising turn.
