A trip through the Dunkin‘ drive-thru left one Texas woman with more questions than breakfast should ever come with.
The customer, who posts under the handle @juliaann.x on TikTok, picked up what appeared to be an egg and avocado sandwich and, rather than digging in right away, decided to inspect it first. What she found made her pause before taking a bite.
In a nine-second clip that has since racked up attention on the app, the creator holds the sandwich close to the camera and presses into the center of the egg. Instead of behaving like the yolk of a fried or cracked egg, it sits oddly on top of the white, almost as if it had been applied there separately rather than cooked in. Her on-screen caption sums up the reaction plainly: “went to go dunkin & WHAT IS THISSSS???? painting the yolk onto our egg is crazyyyyyyy.”
So what exactly is going on with that egg?
She never claims to know exactly what she’s looking at. Instead, the video lingers on that single moment of confusion, with repeated presses into the yolk as if daring it to behave like a normal egg would.
Commenters, some of whom say they’ve worked behind the counter themselves, stepped in to offer their own explanations. “I worked at dunkin. its imitation egg. hope that helps,” one wrote. Another commenter pointed to the ingredient list, writing, “As a Dunkin employee the egg ingredients on the box have more than 5 ingredients… I never eat the eggs at work.” A third took a lighter tone entirely, joking, “I work at egg and it’s actually a Dunkin’.”
The video never settles the question of what exactly Julia was looking at, but that uncertainty is part of what kept people watching. Once something in a takeout order looks off, it can be hard not to start picking it apart, as one McDonald’s customer did after opening her meal and finding melted cheese somewhere it had no business being.
Dunkin’ has not addressed the video directly, and it’s not clear whether Julia raised the issue with the location in person. Still, she isn’t the first customer to leave a Dunkin’ order wondering what exactly she had been handed. One NYC woman found herself asking the same question after receiving what looked like a toilet plunger alongside her drink.
