An Ohio-based TikTok creator’s fountain drink turned into a size dispute at the counter, and she thinks the exchange may have left McDonald’s employees seeing her as a Karen.
Kenz, who posts under the handle @kenzinchaos on TikTok, shared a video describing what happened when she picked up a Coke she had ordered as a large. “I’m pretty sure the McDonald’s thinks I’m a Karen now because they handed me my Coke and I was like regular and she was like, yeah,” she said.
According to Kenz, she told the employee she had ordered a large, and a second staff member behind the counter insisted the cup she had already received was correct. She disagreed. “That’s not a large. This is a large. These are not the same size,” she said, holding up two cups for comparison on camera.
She pointed to what the cup itself says about sizing
Kenz pointed to the labeling printed on the smaller cup, which listed it as a large for certain drinks but not others. “It says large for espresso, shake, orange juice and frozen, but it’s a medium,” she said, pointing to the different size labels printed on the cup.
Kenz wasn’t the only restaurant customer left wondering whether speaking up might make her seem difficult. A Texas woman recently found herself asking a similar question after restaurant staff cleared her table, leaving her to question whether she was entitled to a refund.
“I was like, I’m sorry. I like, I just, I know the size of a large, I want a large Coke. I’ve had a bad weekend. Give me my large Coke,” she said.
Onscreen text in the video reads, “I’m sorry but thank you,” followed by another caption explaining what happened next. “Then the guy sweetly gave me both,” the text says, indicating that a male employee ultimately handed her both drinks.
Viewers responding to the video largely sided with Kenz. “Completely valid to point that out! You paid for a large you should absolutely get the large drink!” one commenter wrote, drawing more than 1,400 likes. Another put it more bluntly: “no they’re not mad at you they’re probably mad at the girl who told you that it was a large when it’s clearly a medium.”
Not every reply centered on the size question itself. “yall still going to McDonald’s?” one person asked, a comment that picked up two dozen likes of its own.
Others said they would have done the same. “I would call this too. I don’t play when it comes to my fountain drink,” one viewer wrote. Another commenter simply replied, “they don’t think you’re a Karen. they don’t care.”
Kenz’s disagreement over the size of her Coke ultimately ended with an employee giving her both drinks, but other McDonald’s order disputes have gone very differently. In one case, a McDonald’s employee grew frustrated enough with a customer’s drink complaints to cut off service altogether.
