A San Diego woman said in a TikTok video that she and a friend were followed at Fashion Valley Mall after they left one store and walked into Nordstrom. Leah, who posts as @leahgwenn, appeared seated in a car and spoke to the camera. On-screen text in the video reads, “PSA FOR SAN DIEGO GIRLS.”
Leah said this was a PSA to every girl who lives in San Diego. She stated that anyone going to Fashion Valley Mall should go with someone, preferably a man. She said they had just been followed.
She explained that they went to Geppetto’s to get squishies and walked out because the store did not have any. She said they then went into Nordstrom’s and realized a man was following them. The TikTok video posted by Leah had gained 478,300 views, 53,500 likes, and more than 1,250 comments.
Leah recounts a reported follow inside Nordstrom and a mall security escort
Leah said she did not know what it meant, but the man had AirPods in. She said she thought he was talking to somebody else on his AirPods. She also said he was either filming them or he was on a FaceTime with somebody. Such frightening encounters with stalkers in public spaces can escalate quickly, as a Chicago woman realized a man was following her to her apartment.
She said her back camera was broken and that she was getting a new phone. The video showed a still image she presented as the man. In that image, Leah appeared in the foreground looking toward the camera, and a man in a black t-shirt, blue shorts, and sneakers appeared in the background near clothing racks.
Leah said the man walked up to some other man in the store, so it was multiple of them. She said they realized they were being followed because he started chasing them around really fast, and she described that as really scary. She said the Nordstrom employees handled it really well and added, “We got a mall security escort to the car.”
Leah said it was just a reminder to be super diligent about your surroundings. She said there were a lot of pretty girls there alone and told viewers to be careful. She asked if anybody knows what it means when they are following you and they have AirPods in. She said that, from what it sounds like, it sounds like it’s like sex trafficking.
Viewers left comments about the area and about similar warnings. One commenter wrote, “Always remember we live in a border town huge in trafficking.” Another commenter said they work at the mall and wrote, “i work there and i can confirm this happens all the time!”
One person described a separate account involving a friend at Macy’s. They wrote, “This happened to a friend at the Macys they actually gave her a shot and she ran inside Macys her adrenaline didn’t let her pass out. In my friends case it was women they surrounded her and gave her a shot on her arm.”
Another commenter warned about wearable cameras as well. They wrote, “girls in san diego be aware of those meta glasses too!! lots of creepy men wearing them. also yes it’s a sign of trafficking, there is usually someone else otp in the parking lot.” A further commenter pointed to a nearby area and wrote, “mission valley has a high level of human trafficking and kidnapping attempts. be vigilant.”
Other commenters focused on cameras, police reports, and personal safety items. One wrote, “Nordstrom should’ve had lots of cameras. Police reports should be made.” Another wrote, “Carry pepper spray and taser and pocket knife on you as protection.” Such concerns about stalking in San Diego are not isolated, as seen when a woman confronted her neighbor for allegedly stalking her.
