Orlando black woman confronts restaurant staff after allegedly being ignored, then says the next guest was greeted immediately

They stood there for about 10 minutes

A woman who posts on TikTok as @pricelessmisfit said in a video that she was visiting Orlando, Florida, researched Italian restaurants nearby, and made a reservation at Danino’s Trattoria. On-screen text in the clip reads, “Racist restaurant in Orlando Florida, Danino’s Trattoria.” She stated she arrived and stood at the door waiting to be acknowledged.

She said the restaurant was not packed. She claimed every worker there looked directly at her for at least 10 minutes and that no one came to greet her. In the caption, she said a person ahead of her walked in and was seated right away, and that a white lady later entered and the staff immediately came to seat her while she was still standing there.

The first TikTok video gained 268,000 views, 28,300 likes, and more than 2,600 comments. She said she left the establishment and kept filming the exterior for review. The clip showed a man with a shaved head and beard, wearing a black T-shirt and dark pants, walking out, followed by a young Black girl holding a purple tablet.

The man turned toward the camera and said, “Are you doing something bad about me? I’m a restaurant.” She replied, “You could call the police if you want to, that’s fine.” He then turned and went back inside. In the caption, she said the owner came out and threatened to call the police on her for saying bad things about his business.

@pricelessmisfit

I am visiting Orlando Florida and researched Italian restaurants in the area. This one was near my location so I made a reservation. The business was not packed. The person before me walked right in and was seated immediately. I proceeded to stand there for at least 10 minutes and was not acknowledged. A white lady walked in and they immediately came to her to seat her (while I was still standing there). I left the establishment but while recording the place for my review the owner came out and threatened to call the police on me for saying bad things about his business. #orlando #orlandoflorida #racist #fyp #viral

She stated in the video, “They did not acknowledge us. We stood there for about 10 minutes and as soon as another person got here, they acknowledged them immediately.” She added, “This place is racist. I will not return and I would I hope that no one else does either.” The video ended with a screenshot of a text that read, “You’re booked at Danino s Trattoria for 7:15 pm 08/01.”

In a follow-up TikTok video labeled “Danino’s UPDATE,” she thanked people for reposting and sharing the first clip. She said the point was getting the message out, whether comments were positive or negative.

She told people of color that when they are treated that way in an establishment, the first thing they need to do is maintain their composure so they can expose the actual problem and not become the problem. She said the man walked out for no reason, that she was on the sidewalk and not on his property, and that he came within a foot of her personal space, which made her back up.

@pricelessmisfit

Someone messaged me on TikTok claiming to be the owner at Danino’s. They stated they have been getting threats since the video has been posted. That is the only update that I have. #fyp #viral

She said people will try to trigger a reaction, and once someone reacts, “now it’s all on you.” She imitated what she said others would then claim: “Look, look, look, look, I knew it! I told you, I told you, Black people always respond like this, right? That’s what they’re saying.”

She said the only update she had came from a TikTok message from someone claiming to be the owner at Danino’s. That person stated they have been getting threats since the video was posted. She also said the message claimed they received a bomb threat at that location. She claimed that she was not sure how true that is. She noted it did not come from the business page or a credible page, and that it came from a page that was not named and had no pictures.

Viewers left mixed comments on the original video. One person said they called the restaurant over and over. They wrote, “I just called them back to back 10 times he mad as f–k.” The incident adds to a national conversation about discrimination in restaurants, as a black woman in Missouri was told to speak English at a Chinese restaurant.

An Orlando resident wrote, “As Orlando resident we don’t eat there anyway. They were on restaurant report with roaches.” Another commenter wrote, “Don’t worry boo, I’m ordering 100 pizzas today & make sure I don’t pick it up.” Allegations of being ignored by restaurant staff have surfaced elsewhere, such as when an Atlanta woman says she was turned away from an empty restaurant.

One person wrote, “The fact he came right out when he saw you, proves you are telling the truth!” Someone said they had a similar visit. They wrote, “Omg I got treated the same way when I went.” A commenter asked to hear the restaurant’s account. They wrote, “I want to hear their side. So sick of this cancel culture bs.” Another person wrote, “This is everywhere in Florida.”
