JD Vance has claimed that he’s “doing as much of God’s work as possible”, and if that leads to the apocalypse and the end of humanity as we know it, then so be it. The vice-president made the comments during an interview with evangelical YouTuber Bryce Crawford, during which he opened up on how his actions may well be ushering in the end times.
Vance said, “What I’m trying to focus on is doing as much of God’s work as possible right, and if that leads to the end times, okay.” He also added that he wonders if we’re currently living through the start of the apocalypse: “Do I think we are in the end times? I don’t know.”
Later in the interview, Vance also said he wouldn’t be surprised if the antichrist – described in the Bible as a charismatic but deceiving liar who “exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship” – is here, but there’s no way of knowing who it might be. As he put it: “I think there are things about the world that make me feel, like, not shocked if the antichrist was walking among us.”
“The end times may be coming, in fact they are coming”
He added that focusing on whether or not his actions are helping bring about the final act of mankind isn’t a good use of his time: “While I’m fascinated by it, I think that focusing on it too much can be very bad.” He underlined that he’d also be fine with the alternative: “if that leads to … us building a better world that thrives and survives for a very long time after I’m gone, that’s great, too”.
But, make no mistake, Vance is certain that the end of the world is nigh, but can’t say whether it’s imminent or not: “I think you got to just kinda try and have an attitude of: the end times may be coming, in fact they are coming, it’s just a question of whether they’re coming thousands of years down the road, or a few months down the road.”
Vance also said he’d been in “meetings with world leaders” where he sensed some kind of spiritual darkness afoot. He explained that “somebody will say something or somebody will make an observation, and I’ll feel some darkness about it. It sets off every spiritual alarm bell in my body.” Unfortunately, he did not go on to identify which world leaders or their comments gave him this ominous Satanic sensation.
