After toplining The CW’s tenacious action thriller Nikita for four low-rated seasons, it appears that Maggie Q has landed her next television gig, with news today that The Following creator Kevin Williamson has signed her for a leading role in his still-untitled stalker pilot at CBS.
Q, who also co-starred in Live Free or Die Hard and has a major role in this week’s Divergent, will star in the pilot alongside American Horror Story alum Dylan McDermott, whose involvement was concerned back in February. The actress will play Detective Beth Davis, the “opinionated and obsessive, workaholic division captain of LAPD’s Threat Assessment Unit,” according to Deadline. The show, which CBS is aiming to pick up for premiere during the 2014-15 fall season, will also use narration from Q’s character.
Meanwhile, McDermott is set to play Detective Jack Larsen, a recent addition to the TAU from New York. Larsen is described as a whip-smart, highly confident detective with a checkered past he’s eager to leave behind.
Few details have emerged about the specific cases that Davis, Larsen and the TAU will be taking on, but Williamson isn’t known for his procedurals, so I’d expect to see a big bad cast within the next month or so. Stalking is an inherently creepy subject, so if Williamson can craft an exciting story around the TAU, he’ll likely have another hit on his hands.
Like Williamson’s FOX program The Following, currently in its second season, the project will be a dark psychological thriller. If CBS picks the show up for a standard season order (which seems very likely given Williamson’s current ratings powerhouses The Vampire Diaries and The Following), it will become Williamson’s third active project on as many networks, an impressive feat indeed.
