Vertigo Comic Scalped Is Headed To Television

It looks like we have another DC comic book to add to the list of upcoming television adaptations, as THR reports that Vertigo’s critically acclaimed Scalped is headed to the small screen, courtesy of WGN America and Warner Horizon Television.

Written by Jason Aaron and R.M. Guera, Scalped tells the story of a Native American FBI agent, Dashiell “Dash” Bad Horse, who was estranged from his South Dakota reservation fifteen years ago. He returns as part of an undercover operation to find evidence linking the Sheriff of the Tribal Police, Lincoln Red Crow, to the deaths of two FBI agents thirty years prior. It also focuses on the inhabitants of the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation as they grapple with organized crime, poverty, local politics, and drug and alcohol addiction, all while trying to preserve their cultural identity.

Beginning in 2007, the series ran for sixty issues and is loosely based on the true story of Leonard Peltier, who was arrested for a similar crime in 1975. The television adaptation is described as a “crime noir set on a Native American reservation” and will be penned and executive produced by Banshee’s Doug Jung.

Scalped has the potential to be a truly riveting drama series if executed properly, and is an excellent addition to the already long list of DC comics adaptations that are making their way to the small screen. No casting news has been announced just yet, but we’ll definitely keep you posted when we hear more.
