For a second consecutive year, Nintendo has announced that it won’t be holding a live conference at this year’s E3 event in the Nokia Theatre.

Instead, the company will channel its gaming showcase through a streamlined “Digital Event”, which will be available to view online on June 10th at 12pm Eastern Time (9am Pacific Time).

In opting for a smaller, pre-recorded presentation, Nintendo plans to ”reveal and provide further detail about the gaming experiences on the way for Nintendo platforms in 2014 and beyond,” according to the company’s official statement.

Additionally, it’s understood that the big N intends to hold a Super Smash Bros. tournament for Wii U, which will invite 16 highly skilled players to duke it out during the show itself. Furthermore, the company’s “Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3” will be live throughout the course of E3, and will stream a variety of in-depth game demos from the studio’s upcoming software roster.

Looking ahead to the LA event, the company’s chief operating officer, Reggie Fils-Aime, outlined Nintendo’s strategy for the public trade show.

“We demonstrated last year that we are never afraid to reinvent a proven tactic or to break completely new ground if we believe it will provide the best experience for our fans, followers and partners. So, whether you’re attending E3 in person or joining online, there’s an amazing lineup of games, experiences and events coming your way.”

And, to gain a jist of the company’s E3 intentions, Nintendo has published a typically quirky video that even features a mechanised, Iron Man-esque version of Reggie himself.
