Though it arrived with a ton of anticipation and started off quite promising, Fox has gone ahead and cancelled J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman’s Almost Human, the sci-fi drama that starred Michael Ealy and Karl Urban.
Set in 2048, the show followed an LAPD officer and his android partner. Debuting to an impressive 9.2 million viewers, with a 3.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, Almost Human certainly got off to a strong start. Unfortunately though, as the season went on, ratings started to plummet and despite pulling in a decent 5.63 million viewers for its finale, Fox has decided to give the series the axe.
With an upcoming slate of new shows that include Gotham, Terrence Howard’s Empire and the Octavia Spencer-led Red Band Society, the network likely didn’t have any additional space on their slate for Almost Human. It’s a shame, too, because I know a lot of people really enjoyed the show and were hoping that it would make it to its sophomore season.
Admittedly, Fox did give it a fair shot, promoting it pretty heavily throughout its run, but the fact that they aired episodes out of order likely lost a portion of their audience. Of course, that isn’t the sole reason for the drop in ratings, but I imagine that it had something to do with it.
Also, unless you’re watching HBO, AMC, FX, Netflix, BBC America or Showtime, it’s pretty tough to find good television these days. Everything else just pales in comparison. Personally, I refuse to watch network television. I can’t think of one show currently on the air that is worth watching. But that’s just me. To each his own, right?
