Fans of the award-winning Adult Swim satirical comedy show, Children’s Hospital, can breathe a sigh of relief. Having seen its ratings steadily increase over the past five years to a cool million per episode in its late-night spot, the facility will be accepting patients for a sixth season in 2015.

At the time of the announcement, the show’s creator and star, Rob Corddry, said:

“Fans can expect the kind of tomfoolery that endeared them to Children’s Hospital back when they were youngsters. Stuff like absurdity, flights of fancy, hard-hitting fake drama, soft-hitting fake drama, farcical door slamming, partial nudity, classical jazz, 70 yard field goals, mustache rides, backwards messages, grooming tips… the whole shebang.”

The show began life as a 10-episode web-series back in 2008, before Adult Swim snapped up the rights and turned it into a TV series of 11 minute episodes. It focuses on the staff of Children’s Hospital – a children’s hospital named after Dr. Arthur Childrens. It lampoons that staple of the TV diet – the medical drama – and features a ‘show-within-a-show’ plot, in which actors portray actors. Rob Corddry stars as Rory Spindell, starring as Dr. Blake Downs – a doctor who believes he is a clown, and completes his shifts in horrifying clown make-up and scrubs smeared with fake blood.

Over the preceding five seasons, the cast list has included Malin Akerman, Lake Bell, Rob Huebel, Megan Mullally, Ken Marino, Henry Winkler, Erinn Hayes, Nick Kroll and Nick Offerman. Producer David Wain also recurs as the Children’s Hospital Chaplain. In its sixth season, the show will apparently return to its American setting after a brief sojourn to a Japanese locale.

What will the future hold in store for the staff and patients of Children’s Hospital, and indeed the actors playing the actors on the show within the show? All will be revealed when the series returns during summer 2015.
