The CW’s upcoming Arrow spin-off, The Flash, is one of our most anticipated new shows of the 2014-2015 season, especially after that extended trailer raced its way online.
Glee alum Grant Gustin will play Barry Allen, who made his debut on Arrow last year and was given a stamp of fan approval for his portrayal of the future Scarlet Speedster. IGN recently sat down with Gustin to discuss his role and how the show will ultimately differentiate from Arrow. Here’s what he had to say:
“Barry’s just excited by all of this. He’s a fanboy! And I don’t have to hide my excitement as I play the role, so it’s really fun to play with. At the same time though, it’s in a reality-based world, so there is an aspect of him that’s a little worried about what’s happening to his body. But at the same time, once he starts to get a handle on it, it’s the coolest thing that’s happened to anybody, as far as Barry is concerned. We’re not going to play the same game that they played on Arrow, where [his alter-ego] was a secret. There will be some characters that Barry’s specifically trying to keep it from, but his circle – for the most part – is going to know that he’s The Flash.”
He also confirmed that we’ll be seeing some crossovers between the two shows, though at this point it’s still a bit early to start diving into the details:
“I don’t know which characters, but there are going to be crossovers for sure between the two shows. I don’t know who it’s going to be, but yes, that’s gonna happen.”
In other Flash news, a lucky few recently got to check out the pilot and their reactions have now made their way on Twitter. As someone who was very hopeful for this show and am very much looking forward to finally seeing the Flash in action, I couldn’t be more relieved about how positive the reception has been. The Flash is a bit harder to pull off with a live-action, relatively small TV budget than a character like Green Arrow, so this pilot had a lot to prove, both from a story standpoint and on the V/FX side of things. Luckily, it appears that things have gone off without a hitch, and we can safely remain optimistic!
