New Details On The Dark Knight In Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Recently, the first picture of Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne in Warner Bros.’ Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice hit the web, showing the character in front of a wrecked Wayne Financial building in Metropolis (likely a casualty of Supes’ massive brawl with General Zod in Man of Steel):

Surprisingly, Wayne only has small amounts of grey in his hair – based on plot information that this film would feature a Batman towards the end of his life, I had expected a few more signs of old age. Of course, Wayne does have his reputation as a playboy to protect – so perhaps he makes a conscious effort to look younger in public. Badass Digest’s Devin Faraci recently revealed some details about the character’s background as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens, which just cement our knowledge that this movie will introduce us to a very different Batman that we’ve seen on the big screen before.

According to Faraci’s sources:

Batman has existed for close to thirty years, which would place Wayne in his 50s (which is why I expected more grey in Affleck’s hair). In this version Batman is still an urban legend, a creature of the night, and no one has ever taken his picture. But he’s had plenty of adventures, and the Batcave includes a memorial centered around a tattered Robin costume.

Very tantalizing. The tattered Robin costume in particular excites me, suggesting that this Batman has already battled the Joker and lost his sidekick, aka Jason Todd, to that adversary along the way.

Faraci said he’s heard more but doesn’t want to venture into spoiler territory – but he did drop one more exciting scoop. According to his sources:

Wonder Woman has also been in operation for some time before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice begins, and her activities have been just as secretive as Batman’s. Her activities were badass as well… but in a very different, and unexpected, way.

As someone who wasn’t a big fan of all the sound and fury in Man of Steel, I’m excited to see that director Zack Snyder is taking steps to introduce other iconic comic-book characters and provide fleshed-out backstories for them. And that he’s doing so without completely aping Christopher Nolan is also a pretty huge plus.
