Seven months ago, AMC announced their plans to adapt the 1990s Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic book Preacher, with Seth Rogen and writer/producer Evan Goldberg (Superbad) attached to help script and develop the show and former Breaking Bad executive producer Sam Catlin serving as showrunner. Things have been relatively quiet since the initial announcement, but now we’ve learned that work on the series is officially underway.

Over the weekend, Goldberg announced the update himself via Twitter, after being asked directly by a fan about it.

Not only will Goldberg and Rogen write the script, but they are apparently getting some notes and insight from Ennis himself, which is great to hear since we were told a few months ago that the show might stray a bit from the source material. That’s not exactly a bad thing, but to have the creator of the story involved in the adaptation will do nothing but help keep the things that made Preacher so memorable and beloved the prime focus on the television series.

We’re probably still a ways away from seeing Preacher hit the small screen, but it’s nice to hear that the wheels are finally turning. Check out the plot summary below if you’re unfamiliar with the source material and let us know what you make of this project in the comments section.

PREACHER follows Jesse Custer, a reverend who has learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned His responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, demanding answers, and making Him answer for His dereliction of duty. Accompanying Jesse on his journey is his former girlfriend and a friendly vampire who seems to prefer a pint in the pub to the blood of the innocent. On his tail is an immortal, unstoppable killing machine named the Saint of Killers – a western lone gunman archetype whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill Jesse.
