In a similar vein to BBC2’s outstanding serial killer drama, The Fall, Babylon enlists the help of an American for this British-based police series. If you’ve not heard of it before today, that might be due to the fact that the pilot landed on British shores back in February of this year. After its initial airing on Channel 4, things fell silent for a time, until the network commissioned a full-length series.
The positive response which surfaced following the first episode was largely down to its starry cast and crew breathing life into its dramedy premise. Brit Marling leads the show as an American PR advisor who’s hired by the London Metropolitan Police Department to overhaul their image. With James Nesbitt and Paterson Joseph taking on supporting turns, it’s shaping up to be a potential must-see for the fall season.
Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later), who helmed the pilot, has since left the show in the very capable hands of Jon Baird (Filth) and Sally El Hosaini. After a look at the one-minute trailer, we’ve got to say, the pair are onto a winner. With wisecracks aplenty, slapstick comedy and a headstrong American attempting to fit in; will you be tuning in?
Babylon arrives on UK screens November 13th, with a US release still yet to be announced.
