It seems Fox’s Gotham isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to introducing some of The Caped Crusader’s most celebrated foes. Having seeded the origin stories for a hoard of villains that include The Penguin, Catwoman and the Riddler, the series is set to draft in another persona: the master of fear himself, Scarecrow.

Gotham executive producer, Danny Cannon, confirmed the news over the weekend at Stan Lee’s Comikaze event, stating that the show’s creative minds have an overarching premise to introduce one Jonathan Crane as a troublesome adolescent. Essentially, this would put Gotham’s rendition of Scarecrow within the same age bracket as Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle.

For protagonist Jim Gordon, it’s Crane’s father who proves to be more problematic, and Cannon confirmed that the older character will indeed terrorise the citizens of Gotham in his own eclectic way — grab those protective masks, folks, we’re expecting the fear gas.

Without doubt, the Scarecrow is one of the most memorable villains in Batman’s esteemed vault of characters, and given that Crane not only cropped up in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, but also tormented players within Rocksteady’s Arkham series, now seems like the perfect time to introduce him to the small screen.
