Woman Says She’ll Never Go Back to St. Barts. A Store Flips Their Sign, Welcomes Everyone But Her: ‘Anti-Black Literally’

Flipping an open sign to a closed door

A TikTok creator, who goes by the name Victoria, says a visit to St. Barts left her questioning whether she’d ever return after what she described as a series of uncomfortable encounters on the island. According to her, what started as a pleasant dining experience turned into a frustrating realization about the island’s atmosphere.

The woman shared the video on social media, documenting how her experience changed after leaving the restaurant. While still inside, she remarked on the number of white people she had seen in St. Barts, saying, “I low-key love white people serving me,” before joking, “I might stay here. I don’t think I’m going back to Saint Martin.” However, her outlook shifted almost immediately after she stepped outside.

“Scratch that. Do not come to this island,” she warned her viewers, filming her walk down the street. She said the trip took a turn after she felt people began treating her differently after leaving the restaurant. She described the environment as “anti-black” based on her experiences outside of the restaurant. Her encounter echoes other viral videos in which shoppers have alleged they were treated differently while visiting stores.

She says the experience only got worse

Hoping to enjoy her vacation, she instead found herself tracking a deeply unsettling trend as she explored further. “Literally the second we left that restaurant, I can count on my fingers the number of black people I’ve seen everywhere we’ve gone since,” she revealed, detailing how the lack of diversity spanned across every beach club, shop, and store they visited.

Unfortunately, the lack of representation was only part of her travel experience. Victoria’s post is one of several recent viral videos highlighting disputed interactions in retail spaces, where shoppers have alleged unfair treatment or questioned how they were handled by staff.

She said the most frustrating moment came when she and a companion tried to enter a Rolex store. Then explained the extreme barriers to entry for local spots, noting that visitors practically have to “pay an arm and a leg” just to get in.

She then described an incident in which she and her companion approached the entrance of a Rolex store after it opened. She said staff stopped them at the door and told them, “Oh no, sorry, it’s still closed.” In the video, Victoria questioned the explanation, saying, “You just opened it. You just flipped the sign. What do you mean?”

After describing the incident, Victoria said the experience was enough to make up her mind about the trip. Looking into the camera, she ended the video with a simple conclusion: “That’s a no for me. Take me back to Saint Martin, thank you.”
