Evolution Studios has provided a brief update on the status of the long-gestating PlayStation Plus Edition of DriveClub, stating that there is still a considerable amount of work to be done server side before the freebie drifts on to PlayStation Network.

Responding to a curious fan on Twitter, the British studio revealed that while servers appear to be stable in the full version of the racing sim, there is still work to be done ahead of the PS Plus edition.

Originally slated to release in tandem with DriveClub‘s retail release back in October of last year, the title launched headfirst into an array of server-related issues, so Evolution shelved the extended demo in order to have all hands at the pump. Now, four months later, there is nary a word of a release date for the promised PS Plus edition, though given the stigma surrounding the PlayStation 4 exclusive following those aforementioned issues, it’s understandable that the company would ensure the trial is performing to full capacity before debut.

From what we understand, the free-to-play demo of DriveClub will include one location, said to be India, and a handful of supercars to give users a taste of the action. Whether excitement for the PS Plus edition has effectively diminished in the time that has lapsed remains to be seen, but the fact that the extended demo is still on course for a release at some point has to be worth something, right?
