Fox Is Developing An Event Series Adaptation Of Enormous

Not to be outdone by Netflix with its upcoming event series adaptations of Marvel comic book titles, Fox is seeking to expand its own comic book interests beyond the city limits of Gotham, and into the realms of Enormous. While filmmakers have been tinkering with the original graphic novel and comic book series for several years, it seems that producer Adrian Askarieh (Hitman) has finally got his foot on the gas pedal, and is headed for an event series with 20th Century Fox, New Regency Television and Prime Universe Films.

There are no spandex covered superheroes in this story, though. This is a dark, action-packed adventure tale with an honest-to-goodness female lead in the form of Ellen Grace – a former school teacher.

A full synopsis features on the official Enormous website and can be seen below:

Enormous tells the full tale of the aftermath of a vast ecological cataclysm which spawns colossal beasts unlike anything ever witnessed. Humankind stares down imminent extinction and the only law is to hunt or be hunted. It’s survival of the biggest as the earth-shaking sci-fi action adventure continues. As the last vestige of humankind spirals towards annihilation, Ellen Grace leads the only remaining North American Search and Recovery Team through the deadly giant monster infested streets of Phoenix. However, she soon encounters another predator far more dangerous than the other-worldly creatures stalking the desolate city: her fellow humans.”

Created by Tim Daniel and Mehdi Cheggour, Enormous first appeared as a one-off graphic novel in 2012, and returned as a comic series in 2014 to great commercial success. It was soon transformed into a live-action short internet film – written by Andre Ovredal (Trollhunter) and directed by BenDavid Grabinski (Cost Of Living). Adrian Askarieh produced that version, and is now shepherding this adaptation for Fox.

It is not yet clear whether the brief internet episode will provide the basis for this Fox event series, but it seems that the production is currently seeking a showrunner. Though it is very early in the development process, Enormous is definitely a project to watch for.
