After much speculation, Square Enix has pegged a release date on the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy X & X-2 HD, which is now due to hit Sony’s current-gen console on May 12 in North America and May 15 for those in Europe. It will available digitally and as a physical release.
For those who choose to pick up the latter version, Gematsu brings word of a special pre-order bonus that will no doubt catch the eye of the franchise’s devotees. The premium package will include a copy of X & X-2 HD along with a stunning desktop calendar that features a collection of artwork from esteemed Japanese illustrator, Yoshitaka Amano. According to the report, this bundle will only be available through participating retailers and Square Enix’s online store.
From what we understand, this edition will be limited to North America, though Europe will also get its own pre-order incentive that swaps out the calendar for a striking steelbook case, again designed by Amano.
Aside from that, the PlayStation 4 rendition will also boast some system-exclusive features to help differentiate it from its PS3 brethren, given that Final Fantasy X & X-2 HD launched on Sony’s older console less than a year ago. Nevertheless, those who own more than one version of the RPG will be able to take advantage of cross-save functionality, enabling you to pick up and continue the story of Tidus and Yuna across either of the three platforms.
Moreover, the PS4 iteration also allows players to switch between the remastered soundtrack and the original, thirteen-year old score at any given moment, allowing you to appreciate Nobuo Uematsu’s magic both old and new.
Final Fantasy X & X-2 HD will now arrive for PlayStation 4 on May 12 and May 15 in North America and Europe, respectively.
