One of the most-requested features for Xbox One is on the brink of becoming a reality after Microsoft’s Larry Hryb – aka Major Nelson – officially revealed the 1TB console that also bundles together the recently-revealed controller replete with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The matte black hardware will begin shipping to retailers on June 16 – shortly after the company’s E3 presser, essentially – tethered with the $399/£349 in select territories. According to Amazon, the 1TB system will begin shipping from today in the UK. For a limited period, this rather enticing bundle will include a copy of 343’s Halo: The Master Chief Collection, meaning you can put that new pad and its revised bumpers to good use.
Speaking of which, the revised controller will now be able to receive firmware updates wirelessly, and these peripherals can be picked up separately from June 16 onwards in the camouflage design glimpsed above or, for those holding out for the standard matte black model, later in the summer. Lastly, a wireless adapter will allow the Xbox One controller to connect to any Windows 10 interface. Due for release in the coming months, the bite-sized device will be priced at $24.99 in the States.
As for the Xbox One base model, Microsoft confirmed plans to slash the asking price down to $349/£299 permanently, meaning that the “promotional” price in the UK has now become standard. Reports suggest that Sony too will formally reveal another SKU for PlayStation 4 at E3 2015, one which will also increase the HDD capacity to 1TB.
Expect Microsoft to offer up additional details relating to its latest Xbox One model when it takes to the E3 stage on June 15.
