To say that the PlayStation Plus Edition of DriveClub – a freebie promised June of 2013 – has been long overdue may be a colossal understatement, but finally Evolution appear ready to debut the trail version of the game tomorrow on PSN.

It’s been a long and tumultuous journey for developer Evolution, and though the surprise may have been spoiled after the listing for the PS Plus version popped on Sony’s digital storefront just yesterday, though the publisher has assured budding racers that the studio has taken all precautions to ensure that the demo enjoys a stable launch tomorrow.

“We’ve spent a long time preparing for this launch after some difficult and unexpected set-backs,” said Sony Worldwide boss Shuhei Yoshida. “To make absolutely certain that all players have the smoothest and most stable experience possible we are going to be duly cautious about how we release the game this time around.”

Upon downloading the PS Plus edition of DriveClub, players will be able to access the game’s offline mode, with Evolution planning to implement online support for the free version at a steady so as not to cripple the game’s servers – servers that have developed a reputation for being temperamental at best.

Since its launch in October, the PlayStation Plus Edition of the PS4 exclusive was continuously delayed to allow the developer to focus on ironing out the technical kinks. Half a year later, DriveClub is now relatively stable in comparison to its disastrous, near-unplayable state at launch. How exactly the community will take to the release remains to be seen, but it’s good to note that Evolution has finally hauled in its proverbial white whale.

At long last, the free-to-play PlayStation Plus Edition of DriveClub will race onto PlayStation Store tomorrow, Thursday June 25th. But is it too little, too late to salvage Evolution’s racer?
