At only 30 seconds in length, the tease includes a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it nod toward our protagonist’s Krypton roots, with a hologram of Alura appearing to a younger, slightly kooky version of Supergirl. Perhaps this is a subtle reference to Richard Donner’s original Superman film of ’78?

While there is certainly no shortage of superhero material gracing screens both small and silver, CBS’ new kid on the block is gunning for a new approach to the ‘superhero hidden in plain sight’ trope. Acting as showrunner is The New Normal‘s Ali Adler, with a cast that encompasses Mechad Brooks, David Harewood and Chyler Leigh along with the aforementioned Dewan-Tatum, who will play a “brash, funny and successful” Lucy Lane.

CBS will bring DC comics to the small-screen when Supergirl touches down for its anticipated premiere on Monday, Oct. 26 at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Supergirl is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El, Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.
