Take this one with a fairly large grain of salt, but Collider thinks that Jon Hamm may be joining the sixth season of The Walking Dead in a villainous role. How did they come to this conclusion? Well, allow us to explain.

In an interview with EW a few weeks ago, showrunner Scott Gimple teased the appearance of Negan, saying:

“It’s absolutely a possibility, and when I say it’s a possibility, we have a plan in place, but there’s a couple variables for that plan that we’re deciding about. It really depends on a few factors as we move into setting up the last bit of the season story-wise.”

Aside from Gimple’s comments, recent casting calls have revealed that Jesus, another character from The Walking Dead comics, will be showing up in season six. And, as fans likely know, Negan can’t be far behind if Jesus is on the scene.

For those who don’t know, Negan is a villain from comic book series and is described as follows on his Wikipedia page:

Negan has a unique personality; a purer form of sociopathic typification than the Governor, who had psychotic tendencies and often engaged in emotional outbursts. Negan is as feared and respected as a king, seen as the first and last word on the activities of his group, the Saviors. Brutal, foul-mouthed and possessed of a twisted sense of humor, Negan carries a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire he named Lucille

If that wasn’t enough to get your imagination running, Collider goes on to call Negan “the most brutal, savage, and violent character to appear in the series.” And considering what we’ve already seen, that’s definitely saying a lot.

So, while it certainly sounds like we’ll be seeing him show up at some point, at least according to Gimple, what’s most interesting about this whole thing is the actor who may be playing him.

In an interview with MTV not too long ago, Mad Men star Jon Hamm expressed interest in the role, and had the following to say:

So, while it’s all very wishy-washy at this point, there certainly is enough evidence here to suggest that Negan will soon be popping up on The Walking Dead. As for whether Hamm will play him, well, that’s another question entirely. He clearly has strong enough ties with AMC to at least put him in contention for the role, if he wanted it, but we just can’t see how it would be a good fit.

Nevertheless, all will hopefully be revealed once The Walking Dead returns on October 11th.
