Motion Poster For Finding Dory Invites You Back Into The Deep Blue Sea

Hollywood sequels may be known for attempting to push the envelope with a bigger and better version of the original, iterating on some of the cinematography while simultaneously expanding the scope of the actual story. For Finding Dory, though, Pixar's long-awaited sequel is poised to provide answers to some of the most pertinent questions presented by its predecessor: Why is Dory beginning to recall memories? Who are her parents? And where in all of the deep blue sea did she learn how to speak whale?

Hollywood sequels may be known for attempting to push the envelope with a bigger and better version of the original, iterating on some of the cinematography while simultaneously expanding the scope of the actual story. For Finding Dory, though, Pixar’s long-awaited sequel is poised to provide answers to some of the most pertinent questions presented by its predecessor: Why is Dory beginning to recall memories? Who are her parents? And where in all of the deep blue sea did she learn how to speak whale?

And though last week’s teaser trailer merely hinted at some of those answers, our first peek at Andrew Stanton’s animated sequel was enough to stoke excitement ahead of its arrival in June. Eager to keep that momentum burning bright, the studio has now published a mesmerizing motion poster that takes you 20,000 leagues under the sea.

Struggling to come to terms with home sickness, Ellen DeGeneres’ titular fish one day gives in to the urge to search for her missing parents and, ultimately, solve the mystery of where she came from. According to a previous statement, Pixar President Jim Morris revealed that Dory’s journey will bring her to the California Marine Biology Institute, revealing that she was actually raised in an artificial environment.

“The movie will be mostly set at the California Marine Biology Institute, a huge complex of sea life rehabilitation and aquarium, where Dory was born and raised. We will get to meet new characters, like an octopus, sea lions, a beluga whale, among others.”

Finding Dory will make a beeline for theaters on June 17, 2016. Maybe then we’ll finally understand the origins of Ellen DeGeneres’ forgetful fish. In the meantime, you can check out the sequel’s new motion poster below.
