The seed for Elektra's appearance on the series was planted in a flashback sequence in which Matt and Foggy reminisce about a Greek ex-girlfriend. That means that the character is definitely out there somewhere, probably being trained as an assassin, and that it won't be long until she finds her way to Hell's Kitchen.
In the comics, Elektra was hired by the Kingpin to kill Daredevil. Based on what happened to Fisk in season 1, that storyline could easily play out in the show's sophomore year.
Elektra is a monumentally important character in the Daredevil mythos and is due for some live-action redemption. Her appearance in the series could also pave the way for storylines featuring The Hand (which were also teased in season 1), so story-wise, it makes the most sense to bring her in sooner rather than later.
Plus, we need more strong female characters in the MCU and few fit the bill as well as Elektra does.

The weekend’s Television Critics Association press tour has provided a lot of interesting updates for some of our most anticipated upcoming shows, in particular, season 2 of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil. The latest info relates to Elodie Yung’s incarnation of fan-favourite assassin, Elektra, who has been both friend (well, more than friend) and foe to Matt Murdock in the comics.
Fans have wondered if we’d see the character in her trademark red costume, which doesn’t leave a lot to the imagination. From the sounds of things, we’ll be getting some version of it at least, but you can expect Yung to be a bit more covered up.
“We love the comics – we’re fans – but, we wanted Elektra’s costume to be reasonable for a martial artist and she’s also a little bit of a stylist”, teased co-showrunner Doug Petrie. “There’s definitely a costume, but it needs to happen organically like we saw on Daredevil.”
And what of this new small screen take on Elektra? Can we expect her to be as cold and ruthless as she’s often depicted in the comics? If we’re going by what Yung has to say, it’s a very good bet.
“We think Elektra is kind of a sociopath. This world is a game for her, like a chess game. What motivates her is what she wants. She’ll use anything … to get to her goal. On the other hand, we wanted to create a character with different layers. I think Elektra is not a bad person. She’s not a good person. She’s a person with different traits.”
