Whereas Far Cry 4 had players explore the icy hilltops of the Himalayas, Primal offers up a whole different ball game by catapulting budding explorers back to the Stone Age. Limited to primitive tools and weaponry, today’s footage is a tantalizing indication of what to expect come February 23, with brutal warfare and ancient tribes taking center stage.

Situated in the land of Oros, Far Cry Primal shuns multiplayer and co-op features to focus on the game’s single-player element, which Ubisoft describes as so:

“In the face of deadly predators and even deadlier foes, the hunter Takkar comes to Oros to help the Wenja people rise above extinction. Takkar’s people, The Wenja tribe, is at risk. They are being attacked by both the cannibals of the Udam tribe, led by the cruel warrior Ull, and the fire worshipers of the Izila tribe, led by the high priestess Batari.”

Not a million miles from the general set-up of Far Cry 4, but we’re holding out hope that the latest iteration in the franchise, buoyed by a whole new setting and time period, keeps the formula fresh with the addition of novel mechanics and gameplay systems.

Far Cry Primal sends Ubisoft’s open-world juggernaut back to the Stone Age when it releases across PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 23, 2016. PC owners, on the other hand, will have to hold out until March 1.
