Another hot property from The Weinstein Company and Dimension Television has landed a full series order. Deadline reports that Spike TV has given the go-ahead for season one of The Mist, only a month after the network ordered a pilot for the small-screen adaptation. The decision to grant it a full season comes after an initial read-through of the pilot script, written by Danish scribe Christian Torpe, who is also set to executive produce.
The project is based on the Stephen King novella taken from his Different Seasons collection, which takes place in a small town besieged by beings from another dimension. If that sounds familiar, then you might recall a previous adaptation on the story that hit the big screen in 2007. Directed by Walking Dead alum Frank Darabont, the film starred Thomas Jane as the leader of a group trapped inside a supermarket while monsters run rampant outside. In the mist.

Christian and the entire team at TWC-Dimension TV have crafted the framework for a compelling and distinctive series that will resonate with Spike’s expanding audience.”
With all the pieces slotting into place, it won’t be long before we start hearing those all-important casting announcements. Expect reports to start rolling in shortly, as The Mist is eyeing up a summer 2016 production start ahead of a 2017 debut.
