Don’t let the relatively small episode count fool you; production on Game of Thrones is a year-round affair, and ahead of season 7 kicking into gear late next month, HBO has detailed the directors on board to helm individual episodes for what could be the penultimate season.

Word comes by way of Entertainment Weekly, confirming that series veteran Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World, Terminator: Genisys), Jeremy Podeswa and Mark Mylod will each helm installments of season 7. All three filmmakers have a history with Game of Thrones, and Taylor and Podeswa in particular ought to ring a bell for fans after nabbing awards for their contributions. Lastly, Matt Shakman, a newcomer to HBO’s fantasy flagship and best known for his work across It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, will also helm an episode.

After reflecting on the events featured in “The Winds of Winter,” David Benioff and Dan Weiss spoke more about Daenerys Targaryen’s one-way trip across the Narrow Sea, armed to the teeth with Dothraki, Unsullied and fully-grown dragons.

“Once she gets on those ships and crosses West, that’s when the clock on the end game starts ticking,” Weiss says. “The question has been: When is she going to get back across the Narrow Sea? When is she going to take back her homeland? It’s been a long time for her, and it’s been something that’s such an imperative for people watching. You know she’s not going to go there for a beach vacation.”

Game of Thrones is fast approaching its epic conclusion on HBO, and Benioff and Weiss estimate that the series could bow out with 13 episodes played out across two seasons.
