Heaven, Hell, Texas and now a second season. AMC has officially confirmed Preacher will return in 2017 with an extended 13-episode run.
Variety has the scoop, noting that AMC and Sony Pictures’ supernatural drama is currently pulling in 3.3 million viewers per episode on average, cementing Preacher‘s place as the #2 new series to make its bow on cable in 2016. Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen and Sam Catlin were among the key creative talent that helped Preacher get off the ground with its stellar freshman season, and in a statement, President of AMC Charlie Collier championed that strong debut.
“‘Preacher’ is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season. What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”
Currently halfway through its inaugural season of 10 episodes, AMC’s renewal stands as a resounding vote of confidence, and proof that there are still plenty of stories to draw from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s celebrated comic book series.
So, there you have it. The immediate future of Preacher is a lock, and Dominic Cooper’s gruelling quest to contact God will continue long into 2017.
