Given that Thor: Ragnarok continues to simmer in production Down Under, SDCC 2016 proved too soon for Marvel to showcase any tangible footage to the vying masses, but the studio did present some artwork and proof-of-concept footage for members of the press.

Descriptions of that behind-closed-doors presentation have now appeared online via IGN and /Film, revealing new villains in Surtur and Fenris Wolf, a fresh hair do for Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder, and Hulk’s gladiator armor that was present on the show floor at San Diego Comic-Con.

In an extract from /Film’s report, a handful of exciting new details can be weened from the description which, it should be noted, is covering a proof-of-concept footage reel that is currently unfinished, with plenty of blue screen scattered across the snippet.

Other shots included an animatic of Cate Blanchett as Hera, basically a motion shot of the concept art that was already revealed. However, the final shot had those knowledgeable with the comics going crazy because it features Thor jumping through the air towards an absolutely giant fiery demon. That demon is none other than Surtur. In the comics, Surtur is a villain who has been previously been defeated by Odin, but gets freed by Loki along with other enemies of Asgard. They all descend upon the city and eventually bring about Ragnarok, which will result in the destruction of all the Norse gods.

Elsewhere, CBM relays a report that suggest The Eternals – deities that are a byproduct of The Celestials – will descend on Thor: Ragnarok. As for the official cast, we know that Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander and Anthony Hopkins will return, along with newcomers Tessa Thompson, Star Trek Beyond alum Karl Urban, Cate Blanchett and Jeff Goldblum.

After remaining on the sidelines during Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok welcomes back both Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and the God of Thunder when Taika Waititi’s threequel lights up theaters on November 3, 2017.
