Season three of The Flash will be feature two big bads in the form of Dr. Alchemy and Savitar. The latter is a speedster, but based on what we’ve seen in set photos, looking at his comic book history won’t shed any light on what he’ll be getting up to in The CW series.

With so much focus on Flashpoint, we currently have no idea about the role these two will end up playing in The Flash, but in an interview with IGN, executive producer Todd Helbing promised that the show won’t suffer from once again using another speedster as a big bad after the Reverse-Flash and Zoom, and describes him as a, “Dark Master of the Speed Force.”

Able to lend or steal speed from others, Savitar has spent his life studying velocity and promises to pose a unique threat to the Fastest Man Alive.

“I think in general if you have some of these other meta humans, it gets hard to show how Barry can’t get them. If you have another speedster, especially someone like Zoom, or Reverse Flash, you need somebody on an equal level to provide that threat that a lot of these other metas can’t do. Savitar is more of a psychological villain in a weird way. I think the Hindu word for Savitar means God of Speed; he’s all about speed. Everything about this guy is different. I can’t go into super detail, but he’s not like Zoom or Reverse Flash.”

Just how different Savitar will be remains to be seen (Zoom’s plan honestly wasn’t all that different to the Reverse-Flash’s after all), but there’s no denying that the description above sound pretty cool. More will hopefully be revealed as we get closer to the return of The Flash on October 4th.
