New Gotham Featurette Discusses Poison Ivy’s Transformation

Without a doubt, one of the most discussed aspects of the third season of Gotham has to be that of the Poison Ivy switch. I’m well aware that some viewers are confused as to the specifics of the change, but it’s actually quite simple to explain: The young Ivy we have come to know (Clare Foley) has been aged several years due to the touch of an Indian Hill “monster” who acts as a sort of reverse fountain of youth. Thus, we are introduced to an adult Ivy played by the up and coming Maggie Geha.

Thankfully, Fox has released a featurette that further explores this new dynamic, as several members of the cast and crew discuss what we can expect from one of Gotham City’s deadliest femme fatales. Geha herself lent some insight with the following statement:

“Little Ivy has been changed, she’s been morphed into big Ivy via one of Professor Strange’s monster creations. Ivy doesn’t really know what happened to her; she doesn’t even really know if it’s a dream, but she likes it.”

Viewers will be introduced to this new status quo in season 3’s second episode, “Mad City: Burn The Witch.” Fans of the comic book iteration should be thrilled to see significant strides taken toward becoming the iconic villainess. Trust me, the intrinsic qualities of what make Poison Ivy who she is are already becoming apparent. The character has often been neglected in the live action realm and I get the impression that Geha and the writing staff are going to give Ivy her due with a vengeance.

Meanwhile, Ivy Pepper (Maggie Geha) is reintroduced into Gotham city in the all-new “Mad City: Burn The Witch…” episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, Sept. 26(8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
