Airbnb’s new guest requested access for pets. When he checked out, her cleaner called and refused to clean the property: ‘Definitely a court case’

It is going to need more than a spit and shine to fix this.

An Airbnb host from the United Kingdom, Aurielle, just stumbled into a nightmare when she discovered that her London property in Southwark had been completely trashed. After renting out her place to a guest who requested access for pets, she realized something was wrong when “my cleaner called me this morning and just refused to do this.” She then recorded the purported aftermath for TikTok, in a video that has since racked up 9.7 million views.

Aurielle walked through the house, showing viewers the extent of the destruction, starting with the toilet floor. She alleged, “This is actually taking a piss now. They just used the fucking floor as a toilet.” It only got worse from there. A cream sofa that was brand new just two weeks prior was completely discolored, and she found that a shower pipe had been chewed through. The stairs, which featured brand new cream carpet, were also completely stained.

Aurielle told TikTok that when she received the booking, it mentioned a man’s name and six pets. At the time, she pictured six “pretty” dogs like chihuahuas. However, alarm bells rang when she received a noise complaint from a neighbor. Then she received a phone call from a local housing group and was allegedly told that the booking was made by the county council to house a person in need.

In addition to the mess and stains, she claimed she had been robbed

According to Aurielle, her vacuum cleaner, along with a mop and bucket, had been taken. The bathroom was perhaps the most shocking discovery, as she realized the toilet had been completely dislodged. She pointed out, “Oh, my God, they broke the fucking toilet! Look at the toilet. It’s in the fucking wall.”

Throughout the video, Aurielle appeared visibly shaken and distressed. She highlighted items ordered on Amazon, including antibacterial wipes that were never used on the property, and a pot plant that suggested the guest might have intended to stay long-term. She also found a power outlet hanging off the wall.

TikTok reacted with shock, but many told her to follow up with the county. One user commented, “If the council booked it and used it for social housing without your prior consent… they are liable for the costs!” Another added, “Definitely a court case… this is shocking.” Recently, a luxury Airbnb was booked for a party of 7 people, but when the night ended, the police found 800 teenagers and a shooting in progress.

Amongst the supporters were voices who asked to avoid generalizing all people experiencing homelessness. Interestingly, Aurielle liked the comments that supported homeless individuals, despite her own negative experience.

In a follow-up video, Aurielle revealed that the damage to her house totaled £16,000. Similar to her case, a couple who rented out their dream home on Airbnb ended up facing between $50,000 and $75,000 in damage. Aurielle shared that the county contacted her after the video went viral. She told TikTok, “Director of housing of this county has just called me saying something about, oh, just to let you know, it’s not actually a homeless family.”

The TikToker also claimed that the council offered to send their own contractors to fix the damage. She stated that she had previously refused this in writing. She stated that she had asked them to come see the damage, but they had allegedly refused. Aurielle then expressed frustration that the council only seemed interested in helping after she went viral. In her post, she questioned their motives and the use of public funds.

According to Aurielle, the council offered to pay her £250 a day in lost income. She claimed that they were determining how to handle the payment for the damages. She emphasized that this is a significant waste of taxpayer money.

Meanwhile, an Airbnb spokesperson provided a statement to Daily Star, which covered Aurielle’s story. They said, “We take reports like this seriously. We reached out to the host following the stay to offer support and the host confirmed at that time that their concerns had been fully resolved, and that they did not require support with any damage claims.” They added that they remain available if the host needs further support.

According to Hartford County, the local government places individuals who need temporary housing in private sector housing when public options are unavailable. These placements are intended as interim measures while housing needs assessments are carried out. However, it is unknown how often or if they use private rental platforms like Airbnb.

As of her third video, Aurielle has begun the long process of repairing her property.
