It’s been in the works for what feels like forever, but Syfy is continuing to put together the cast of their planned Krypton pilot. After choosing Georgina Campbell to play Lyta Zod, the latest addition to the cast is British actor Cameron Cruffe. A relative unknown on both sides of the pond, he’ll play Seg-El, a.k.a. the grandfather of Superman.

His ties to the Man of Steel are something which Krypton is clearly going to push hard, but whether or not fans are interested in his story is another matter. So far, the response appears to have been pretty tepid despite the fact that the scenes set on the alien planet are still considered the best part of Superman’s last solo outing by some.

In Krypton, Seg-El is destined to be the ancestor of Jor-El (future father of Superman) and Kal-El (the future Superman). Described as the scion of the once prosperous El family, he’s blessed with an intuitive brilliance for all things technical; he’s now living in Krypton’s lowest caste after his family was stripped of its rank.

How the House of El rises back to prominence is clearly a story that Krypton plans on telling. It definitely has potential and could take viewers to some pretty interesting places, but Syfy sadly isn’t a network which inspires a lot of confidence. The involvement of David Goyer also has many fans concerned, and as of now, we’ll remain cautiously optimistic in regards to how Krypton will ultimately turn out.
