As fan theories abound about the potential direction of the hit TV series Westworld, what we really needed was for one of the actors involved to weigh in on things. And while she doesn’t tell us much, Evan Rachel Wood was happy to oblige.
Wood plays Dolores Abernathy in Westworld, and she says that fans needs to prepare to have “your hearts broken and your mind blown” in the last two episodes of this season. The show will apparently begin to bring us out of Sweetwater and into the rest of the park, and Wood goes on to say that things begin to shift around episode five, with new stuff emerging:
We’re getting out of Sweetwater and getting deeper into the park, on the outskirts. We’ve established that the farther out you go, the more intense the game gets, and man, were they not kidding because when we started getting the scripts after episodes five, and episode five, it was like, ‘Whoa! OK!’ Not only are they dropping bombs left and right, but some of the days on set, I would be like, ‘Look, I’ve seen some stuff, and this is WILD.’
Wood also cautions viewers that “it will only continue to get more and more intense and more relentless. We’ve set everything up really beautifully and the payoffs are going to start hitting you one by one.”
That all sounds pretty exciting, especially for a show that has already broken boundaries and made quite a few fans on the strength of its first four episodes. The question is whether these mind-blowing events all hang together, or if the show begins to fragment and fall apart before the season is over.
Fan theories have moved like wildfire, and now we wonder if any of them will prove right, or if Westworld has something else entirely up its sleeve. While it’s certainly been pretty tight and dependable so far, that’s no guarantee that the season will end strong. It’s good that Wood’s so excited though, and here’s hoping that we’ll all be excited, too.
Westworld airs on Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO.
