Original Cast Returns For Big Hero 6 TV Series

Disney's Big Hero 6 is still probably one of the best (recent) superhero movies, thanks largely to an excellent voice cast and a unique, animated take on the genre. There's now good reason to hope that Disney XD's upcoming Big Hero 6 TV series will match the film in quality, as most of the original voices from the original are set to reprise their roles here.

The Big Hero 6 series is set to pick up right where the film left off, continuing the adventures of Hiro (Ryan Potter), his lovable robot Baymax (Scott Adsit), Aunt Cass (Maya Rudolph), and team of superhero friends – including Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez) and Go Go (Jamie Chung). Other actors reprising their roles comprise Alan Tudyk as tech genius Alistair Krei, and (of course) Stan Lee as Fred’s dad.

Although most of the original cast is back for the show, there are two notable exceptions: Damon Wayans Jr. and T.J. Miller have left their respective roles of Wasabi and Fred to Khary Payton and Brooks Wheelan. It’s sad to see them go, but pretty amazing that the rest of the cast has signed on for the show.

Big Hero 6 was a great film and it’s certainly set up for a long-running series – as long as the writing and directing hold out. To that end, the show has taken on the Emmy winning talents of Mark McCorkle, Bob Schooley and Nick Filippi, who were behind Disney’s Kim Possible show. That in itself should guarantee a good run for Big Hero 6. It’s rare that I’m excited over the prospects of a Disney TV show, but the original film was so good that I’m willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt.

We’ll know for sure if Big Hero 6 can live up to its big screen name when the show premieres. Until then, just take a look at that cast list.
