Now that much of the original cast are locked in to return – Millie Bobby Brown included – Stranger Things has been steadily expanding its ranks in anticipation of season 2 in 2017.

First, there was the two-fold addition of Sadie Sink and soon-to-be Power Rangers star Dacre Montgomery, before Sean Astin, Paul Reiser and Linnea Berthelsen booked their respective tickets to Hawkins, Indiana. The casting spree doesn’t end there, though, now that The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed actor-comedian Brett Gelman is in line to play Murray Bauman, a “disgraced journalist-turned-conspiracy theorist who is investigating a cold case in Hawkins.” Perhaps it involves the nefarious Department of Energy?

Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer have so far remained tight-lipped about Stranger Things season 2 – and rightfully so – though we understand that the nine-episode season will take place in 1984, a full year after the events of the Upside Down and that pesky Demogorgon. One story beat that appears to be a shoo-in is how Will comes to terms with life in Hawkins, Indiana after such a harrowing experience in that monstrous alternate reality.

Casting is still underway for Netflix’s second season, mind you, so don’t be too surprised if we catch wind of further character details in the coming weeks now that production has officially begun.

As things stand, Stranger Things season 2 is on course to premiere mid-way through 2017. No word on a specific date just yet, but rest assured that the future is bright for Netflix’s sizzling hot original series, what with mooted talks of a third season already beginning to swirl.
