Suicide Squad Concept Art Shows Off Different Looks For Joker And Harley Quinn

Upon release, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad proved to be pretty divisive. Among other things, people took issue with some of the costumes that the characters sported, especially Jared Leto’s Joker. With tattoos covering his body and a grill in his mouth, it was certainly a different look for the iconic villain, and one that fans didn’t take too kindly to.

This wasn’t the only design that the filmmakers had for the character though, as another batch of concept art/photos have now surfaced online, this time from Costume Graphic Illustrator Tina Charad, giving us a glimpse at what both the Joker and Harley Quinn could have ended up looking like had Ayer gone with Charad’s first few ideas. Whether or not any of these would have worked better than what we ultimately got will be up to your own personal taste, but for us personally, nothing here really grabs our attention.

The stuff for Mr. J is actually even worse than the costume he ended up with, while Harley Quinn was already pretty much perfect to begin with and didn’t really need any changes – at least not looks-wise. That being said, these photos are still an interesting glimpse at what could have been and are well worth checking out if you count yourself as a fan of the two characters.

And speaking of these two colorful villains, we haven’t seen the last of them just yet, which means they could very well get some updated looks down the road. Harley Quinn, of course, will next be on the big screen in her very own spinoff film, which just snagged a writer. The Clown Prince of Crime, meanwhile, hasn’t been confirmed for any future DCEU outings, but he’s far too important of a character for DC to be done with him.

We don’t imagine Jared Leto will have anything to do with Justice League or Wonder Woman, but we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him appear in The Batman. Of course, that remains unconfirmed and while there are several ways that the studio can continue to develop the character, we’ll just have to wait and see what they ultimately do.

For now, be sure to check out the concept art in the gallery above and if you’re still eager for more Suicide Squad, you can pick up the new Extended Cut, which is now available on Digital HD and hits Blu-ray December 13th.
