Final Fantasy XIV’s Patch 3.5 Releases January 17, Here’s The Action-Packed Trailer

Final Fantasy XIV's latest content patch, The Far Edge of Fate, will release January 17 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC, Square Enix has confirmed, with a new trailer having dropped today. As with all previous patches, 3.5 will introduce several new types of content, including two new dungeons, the third part of the current 24-man raid - Dun Scaith - and the final boss trial in the Warring Triad series - Zurvan, The Demon. Not all of the new features follow the same predictable formula, however. The Diadem, an existing feature that fell out of favor with fans rather quickly, is being restructured from the ground up for the 3.5 series, with game director Naoki Yoshida hoping the new and improved version will hit a mark that the original missed the first time around.

As was the case with the final two patches prior to the arrival of the MMO’s Heavensward expansion in 2015, The Far Edge of Fate will be split into two parts, the second of which is due for release sometime in March. The cause for the separation is likely due to the scheduled launch of Final Fantasy XIV‘s second expansion – Stormblood – later this year.

Unveiled during the Las Vegas Fan Festival in 2016, Stormblood will see the player character’s Warrior of Light travel to the nation of Ala Mhigo in order to free it from the oppression of the Garlean Empire. A huge amount of content is being promised for the add-on, including various new Jobs, one of which was confirmed to be the iconic Red Mage during the Tokyo Fan Festival last month.

Final Fantasy XIV‘s Stormblood is due to release on June 20th, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
