While we anxiously await the return of Jerome, any Gotham news to come our way is most welcome. That said, a recent addition has been made to the show that may significantly impact the life of Bruce Wayne.

At some point during the second half of the current season, expect to see the introduction of a mysterious man known as the Shaman. Played by Raymond J. Barry (The 100, Justified), who is set to have a recurring role, it remains to be seen if what occurred in the pages of Batman: Shaman will have any influence on his performance.

Deadline describes the character as follows:

Barry will play the temple Shaman, a mysterious figure who enters Bruce’s (Mazouz) life with the stated intention of unlocking the potential of his own mind. While the Shaman says the fate of Gotham depends upon Bruce becoming the man the city needs him to become, the truth behind his intentions proves to be far more sinister.

Should he have ulterior motives, I can sense this interaction will have great influence on Bruce developing serious trust issues that Batman is known to have. Considering that he was already taken advantage of by Theo Galavan and there’s an ever expanding web of conspiracy behind the murder of his parents, it’s very doubtful he’ll mature into a version of the Caped Crusader comparable to that of Adam West’s interpretation.

Gotham returns with new episodes on Monday, January 16. To help hold you over, check out the synopsis for the midseason premiere below:

Cameron Monaghan and Paul Reubens Return

Falcone places a hit on Gordon after learning that he shot Mario. Gordon and Bullock discover a follower of Jerome (guest star Cameron Monaghan), who plans to bring him back to life. Meanwhile, Penguin spirals out of control before the biggest television interview of his Mayoral career, and Bruce and Selina deal with Selina’s mom’s return to Gotham.
