While the X-Men won’t be making the leap to the Marvel Cinematic Universe any time soon, it’s been revealed today that another collaboration between Marvel and 20th Century Fox TV is close to becoming a reality. The untitled drama will air on Fox and is nearing a pilot order as “exploratory casting” is starting to take place ahead of the official green light coming through.

Created and written by Matt Nix of Burn Notice fame, the show’s being described as a family drama, which would make it a pretty strange sounding addition to the X-Men Universe. Of course, there’s nothing to say that it will be set in the same world as the movies, especially as Legion appears to be very much a standalone series. Still, it’s definitely got us curious.

For more on what to expect from the show, here’s the current logline:

“[It] focuses on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.”

The response to Gotham from fans since it launched has been mixed, though it still seems to be going strong in its third season. Throw in the fact that Fox has a spotty track record with dramas and whether or not this pilot order is good news is hard to say. After all, the series sounds pretty generic and not too different from countless other sci-fi movies and TV shows.

With any luck, the family will be known to comic book fans and that underground society will feature some familiar faces. If not, the fact that the kids are mutants will be largely irrelevant and a pretty weak way to tie the drama into the world of the X-Men. We’ll just have to wait and see what this ultimately turns out to be, but feel free to let us know what you think of the show in the comments section down below.
