It’s that time: Diamond Comic Distributors’ sales figures are in for the month of December 2016 and it’s been made clear that Justice League vs. Suicide Squad #1 reigned supreme. But then again, that revelation doesn’t surprise us when you consider that it’s scheduled for a second printing.
Before we get to the chart itself, let it be known that Marvel handily retained its title as being top publisher in the industry, dominating with 36.73% retail market share and 40.50% unit market share. Not surprisingly, it was DC who bested the rest of the competition to come in second place with 29.47% retail market share and 29.04% unit market share.
Without further ado, here are the Top 10 highest selling comics for December:
1 JUSTICE LEAGUE VS. SUICIDE SQUAD #1
2 INHUMANS VS. X-MEN #1
3 DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE #7
4 BATMAN #12
5 BATMAN #13
6 CIVIL WAR II #8
7 STAR WARS #26
8 STAR WARS: DOCTOR APHRA #1
9 HULK #1
10 ALL-STAR BATMAN #5
Analyzing that data, it becomes apparent that several constants hold true: Batman books will always be among the greatest sellers (in this case, three separate series) and the same goes for Star Wars; event books mean big bucks, hence great numbers for the conclusion of Civil War II and the opening for Justice League vs. Suicide Squad. Intangible #1s tend to do well, too, as Hulk benefited this time around, but only time will tell if subsequent issues can keep it up.
We couldn’t help but notice that Justice League vs. Suicide Squad #2 didn’t make the cut, but in its defense, it had some heavy competition. With four more issues of the miniseries shipping in January, we expect it to place well in the next chart.
