In a further blow to the Nintendo Switch‘s already sparse launch line-up, survival horror sequel Resident Evil 7 won’t be coming to the new hardware, Capcom has confirmed. Speaking to Express, producer Masachika Kawata and director Koshi Nakanishi told the site that Nintendo’s upcoming new piece of kit won’t be graced with Resident Evil 7‘s presence, despite Kawata believing it to be a unique spin on the traditional home console. “I’m looking forward to the possibilities of the system itself, but we have no plans at the moment regarding Resident Evil on Switch,” says Kawata, no doubt fuelling the flames of doubt around the future of the Switch’s third-party support.
With that said, Capcom is supporting the Switch in its fledging few months with at least one game. Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers was confirmed at Nintendo’s Switch event earlier this month with a fleeting snippet of gameplay. Along with a wide range of balancing tweaks, the decades-old fighter will receive two brand new characters – Evil Ryu and Violent Ken – the first major update Street Fighter II has received since its HD re-release on last-gen consoles.
As for Resident Evil 7, the follow-up to 2012’s near-universally disappointing Resident Evil 6 looks set to deliver on Capcom’s promise of a return to form for the legendary franchise, which launches tomorrow for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
