The Walking Dead’s Showrunner Addresses Sonequa Martin-Green’s Star Trek: Discovery Commitments

While Star Trek: Discovery won’t be with us as soon as we thought, the fact that The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green has been cast in a leading role there has led to a lot of concerns from fans of the undead. After all, it’s surely now a foregone conclusion that Sasha will be killed off so that the actress can head into outer space, right?

After all, Corey Hawkins quickly vanished from the AMC series after landing a lead role in 24: Legacy, so it’s reasonable to think that Martin-Green will do the same. However, it appears that may not be the case, as The Walking Dead‘s showrunner, Scott Gimple, has addressed fans’ concerns. It’s entirely possible that he’s bluffing here, but it doesn’t sound like Sasha will be going anywhere for the time being.

“Sonequa Martin-Green can do anything. I’ve seen her battle a horde of walkers this year while simultaneously battling a stomach flu that would have had most people crying in the dirt. She can fulfill the duties of a Lieutenant Commander on a Constitution-class starship whilst battling walkers, Saviors, and whatever gets in Sasha’s way. We’ve had to juggle before. I will certainly juggle for Star Trek any day of the week. Okay, maybe not on Sunday.”

The Walking Dead has never shied away from killing off fan favourite characters, and Martin-Green landing a role in a series which could keep her busy for the foreseeable future is as good excuse as any to say goodbye to yet another. However, now that production on Star Trek: Discovery has been delayed and the second half of The Walking Dead is pretty much in the can, it’s entirely possible that we could see Sasha for at least some of season 8 when it premieres this Fall.

Still, even despite Gimple’s comments, we’ll be keeping a close eye on Sasha as her chances of survival have no doubt plummeted now.
