The Flash Movie Gets A Third Writer As Warner Bros. Decides To Start From Scratch

Before the Han Solo movie came along, Phil Lord and Chris Miller looked set to both write and direct The Flash. However, they ended up leaving behind only a treatment, and it then came down to director Seth Grahame-Smith to write the screenplay. However, he would ultimately depart the project over creative differences with Warner Bros.

Rick Famuyiwa was the one hired as his replacement, and when he came on board, he decided to rewrite the script pretty much from scratch. Unfortunately, the studio didn’t agree with his interpretation and he too ended up parting ways with them. To date, The Flash is still without a director, but it’s been revealed today that the movie has taken a small step forward by bringing on yet another new scribe.

Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) has been tapped to rewrite the screenplay from page one, something which is sure to make it even more difficult for the project to meet its planned July 2018 release date. Warner Bros. is apparently in no rush to find a new helmer, especially as Ezra Miller will soon be busy with the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel, so the film may very well get delayed.

We’re not sure yet what Harold has in mind for Barry Allen’s solo outing, but it sounds like The Flash is now going to head in a completely different direction than what had previously been planned. That means we can forget about Cyborg playing a role here, while various other rumours about the plot and villains can also now be discounted. Should we be worried? Perhaps, but until we see just what DC is up to with the film, we won’t give up hope.
