The other day, we found out that Matt Nix’s still untitled X-Men TV show had received an official pilot order from Fox, and since then, the Burn Notice creator has been teasing what to expect in a series of interviews. He’s not allowed to say too much, of course, but during a chat with Cnet.com, Nix does provide us with a few intriguing new tidbits of info.
We already know the premise will involve a human couple finding out that their child is a mutant, and then hitting the road to avoid being captured by a shadowy government agency. Obviously, the show is going to feature plenty of the mutant characters they meet along the way, but Nix suggests that the tale will unfold primarily from the humans’ perspective, and teases a more “intimate story” than the ones that have been adapted for the big screen.
It’s a story that definitely comes at the world of mutants from the side. One of the things that’s come out [publicly] is the idea of a family that discovers their kids are mutants and has to go on the run. The movies and the comics have generally started with the X-Men and encountered the world outside from the perspective of the X-Men. This show flips that on its head, in the sense that it doesn’t exclusively take place inside the world of people who are already X-Men and know that world. It’s also, I’d say, a more intimate story, in the sense that’s what television does well.
Nix is also asked outright which characters will feature on the show, but says he can’t spill on that just yet. However, he has already 100% confirmed that we’ll be seeing some familiar faces from the X-Men movies. How major/minor those characters turn out to be remains to be seen, but something tells me we shouldn’t get our hopes up for a James McAvoy cameo.
