CBS’ Starfleet crew has expanded by three, now that the network has added Maulik Pancholy (30 Rock), Terry Serpico (Sneaky Pete), and Sam Vartholomeos to its upcoming Star Trek: Discovery.
Comprised of 13 episodes in total, the all-new series is still without a premiere date at the time of writing, but we know that that trio in question now joins The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, Mary Chieffo, Anthony Rapp and James Frain. All in all, it makes for quite the enviable cast, and you can find official confirmation of Discovery‘s new recruits, below.

Brief character bios were released alongside the show’s latest casting coup, revealing that Pancholy is on board to play “Dr. Nambue, the chief medical officer of the Starship Shenzhou.” Vartholomeos, meanwhile, has signed on as “Ensign Connor, a junior officer in Starfleet Academy who is assigned to Starship Shenzhou.” Last but certainly not least, Serpico has been cast as “Admiral Anderson, a high-ranking official of Starfleet.”
As the first seralized spin on the Star Trek universe since Enterprise bowed off the airwaves in 2005, there’s a lot riding on Discovery to be a sure-fire success for CBS. Filming got underway late last month, but the network still delayed its freshman series due to its seemingly “ambitious” nature. Bryan Fuller was once attached as showrunner before making for the exit door – he’ll still write the pilot, mind you – and in his steed, Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg have been elected co-showrunners.
Slowly but surely, Star Trek: Discovery is beginning to inch closer to release, and though Martin-Green is committed to The Walking Dead at AMC, Scott Gimple is confident the actress will be able to balance both roles without so much as breaking a sweat.
